How Phone Link checks this computer
Phone Link speaks with one natural voice on every computer, so callers hear the same voice whichever computer answers. It speaks 31 languages, including Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese and Korean.
Each time Phone Link starts, it warms up and then speaks a short test phrase. It uses the computer's graphics processor when that keeps up, and its main processor otherwise. A computer that cannot speak quickly enough either way is not used for calls, so no caller hears long silences.
Recommended: a dedicated Mac mini
A Mac mini with Apple silicon, left on as your business's dedicated Phone Link computer, is what we recommend.
What every computer needs
- 8 GB of memory, 2 GB of free disk space for the voice, and a stable broadband connection.
Keep it running
On Windows, installing asks for an administrator once, so the app can be set up for the whole computer and allowed to answer calls through Windows Firewall straight away. Nobody is interrupted by a security question during a call.
Phone Link answers calls only while it is open and signed in. The Skylynx Phone Link app keeps the computer awake while Phone Link is on, and can start when you sign in to the computer. The screen can still turn off.
The app runs the voices directly on the computer, which is much faster than a web browser can, so it supports far more computers than using Skylynx in a browser tab.
